Welcome to “Google Meet for Beginners.” In this lesson, you’ll discover how to use Google Meet, a user-friendly video conferencing program included with every free Google account. This tool allows you to have virtual meetings with people from any location, using your computer or mobile device. It provides a near face-to-face experience as you can see and hear each other as if you were in the same room. Google Meet is versatile, suitable for various types of digital meetings such as work-related discussions, social gatherings, family meetups, attending school remotely, or even job interviews. No special equipment is required to use Meet – it utilizes the camera and microphone of your computer or mobile device. If you’ve completed the “Google Docs for Beginners” lesson, you might have created a celebration planning document. In this session, you’ll learn how to conduct a virtual meeting in Google Meet to help plan your celebration, or any other event, real or imagined, that you could be organizing with friends or family.
This lesson focuses on the features available in the free version of Google Meet. Keep in mind that if your office, school, or organization uses a paid Google Workspace account, some functionalities of Google Meet might differ. To enhance your learning experience, especially if you’re in a room with others watching the same lesson, consider using headphones. This prevents sound issues that arise when microphones from different computers pick up sounds from other video meetings. As you progress through the lesson, keep this video open in a separate tab for easy reference. If you’re not signed into your Google account yet, open a new tab, go to google.com, and sign in.
