In this lesson, you’ll begin by opening Gmail to explore its features. Start by locating the Google apps icon on the tab where you’ve just signed into Google. This icon, symbolized by nine small dots, is found in the top right corner of your screen. Click on this icon to open the Google Apps menu, and then look for the Gmail icon, which is usually near the top. If it’s not immediately visible, you may need to scroll down by placing your cursor on the light gray line at the right of the apps menu and moving your mouse downward. Once you find and click on the Gmail icon, Gmail will open, displaying your inbox, which functions like a mailbox collecting all your emails. You can click on any email to open and read it. Your inbox is organized with three tabs – Primary, Social, and Promotions – that sort emails into different categories, helping you prioritize your communications.

Next, explore your Spam folder to understand how Gmail handles unwanted emails. In the menu on the left side of your screen, click “More,” then select “Spam.” The Spam folder is crucial for catching spam emails, which are unsolicited bulk messages that may include scams, viruses, or malware. Exercise caution when dealing with emails from unknown senders, especially when it comes to clicking links or opening attachments. Occasionally, legitimate emails might be mistakenly marked as spam, so it’s wise to periodically check the Spam folder. If you discover an email wrongly classified as spam, select it and click the “Not Spam” button to correct this. To return to your inbox, simply click on “Inbox” on the upper left side. Now, it’s your turn to navigate: Open the Google apps menu, select Gmail, explore the Primary, Social, and Promotions tabs, check your Spam folder, and then return to your inbox. After completing these steps, click “Next” to continue to the next video.
