Job description overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Life Enrichment Director to lead all aspects of the Life Enrichment Department and to coordinate activities based on resident needs and interests. The Director of Life Enrichment is responsible for creating and managing programs that enhance the lives of our residents in our Independent Living, Assisted Living and Memory Care.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in Senior Living, staff development, exceptional management skills, and the ability to supervise a diverse team while fostering an inclusive environment. This role involves managing the departments budget, hiring staff, collaborating with medical teams, and maintaining professional partnerships with local agencies.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES
Activities:
Plan, schedule and coordinate all regularly programmed activities, including classes led by you, other staff members, vendors, residents and volunteers.
Develop relationships with vendors, manage scheduling and negotiate pricing.
Seek new presenters/speakers when appropriate to further engage residents.
Plan and coordinate arts-related activities:
o Happy Hour entertainers
o Special concerts
o Streamed Performances
o The Variel Choir – direct choir and produce 2 concerts per year.
o Outings to plays, concerts and other activities of interest to residents (in conjunction with Transportation Coordinator.)
Support religious services and plan for all holidays.
Create and support clubs and committees to increase involvement and resident engagement (example: Nature club, Book Collection, Community Garden, Book Clubs, Veterans, Movies, and more.)
Work with residents to maintain and organize books, puzzles, movies, magazines, and games.
Work with Transportation Team to plan trips outside the community.
Work closely with Fitness Center Manager to ensure we offer engaging and appropriate fitness classes and instruction.
Overall, create and continually evolve programming and activities to reflect and embody “Life Enrichment.”
Resident Support:
Encourage and support resident led activities.
Work in conjunction with Executive Director to engage and track the well-being of all IL residents.
Work closely with Resident Services to meet and anticipate event/activity/project needs and avoid problems.
Communication:
Chair Communications Task Force
Prepare and distribute IL resident activity calendars (daily, weekly, monthly) as determined to be appropriate.
May be asked to create social media content on behalf of the community.
Maintain listing of Activities, Clubs and Committees.
Update and communicate all activities per Executive Director approved systems.
Special Events:
Coordinate all aspects of community special events in conjunction with other departments (Sales and Marketing, Food and Beverage, Resident Services.)

Community Milestones and Celebrations
Supervisory/Managerial:
Oversee Activities Coordinator/ Assistant.
Hire, assign and direct work, conduct performance appraisals, reward and discipline, as appropriate.
Meet budget requirements.
Purchase supplies for classes, activities and needs in the community.
Coordinate payment for vendors.
Take Responsibility for decorating the community with seasonal décor. In addition, be aware and act if something in the community needs attention.
Manager On Duty (MOD) requirement to cover weekend days as needed.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate degree is required; Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent education and experience.
3 years of Events Planning in senior living is preferred.
Previous supervisory experience required.
Previous experience in senior living is preferred.
Experience in volunteer recruitment and training a plus.
Ability to lead classes (crafts, music, etc.)
Must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of management, associates, residents, family members, and outside contacts.
Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
Computer skills a must (Google docs, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Canva)
Familiarity with social media and how to create and post content.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works both indoors and outdoors.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. independently.
Must be able to bend, stoop, reach, and be on your feet for extended periods of time.
