Reading

Developing content is a multi-step process that involves setting the theme, writing the script in advance, tying it into your brand, and using the proper tools to create the content in question. For the next few topics we will use video development as our example, but the same rules apply to other mediums like photographs and writing. A quick overview:

Setting The Theme refers to looking at your niche, looking at your audience, and deciding the general feel of your content. This is especially important if you’re planning on changing things up, as we mentioned previously that you can alienate your audience if you’re not careful. Once you have the general, figure out what the topic will be, what some searchable tags could be, and so-on. Even the planning of how you dress matters in this case!

Write Down Scripts in Advance refers to… writing scripts in advance. Obviously!  The key here is what you need to plan, and what you don’t. In video creation, it does not need to be a verbatim script (e.g. spoken word-for-word) since this can be really boring and dry. Instead, you want to figure out a timetable to work from and key points or activities during that time table. Being spontaneous is important, especially for anything that might be live!

Build Your Own Brand refers to the part of the video that promotes you as an influencer. The content is nice, but what does it say about you? It’s important that you think about your brand with every piece of content you make, and how you can use that to market yourself further. You’re judged by your content, so keep this in mind.

Find Useful Tools refers to the actual production work. You need the proper software and hardware, especially as you’re getting started. We have more specifics on this in the next lesson, but we’ll cover some basics to get you started in video and other formats.

Tips

  1. Think about setting your theme

  2. Write scripts in advance but consider using them as a guideline

  3. Focus on building your own brand
