Start Building Credit Early

Reading

Avoiding credit is actually a bad thing in today’s society. Starting a credit card early in your life can and will give you a healthy credit score by the time you need it, years and years later. For instance, many affluent families will co-sign a credit card for their teenage children in order to start their credit early, and while it generally holds a low credit maximum, paying it off every month in full will raise that limit over time. Plus, as long as a card is paid before it incurs interest, you still earn the credit score without ever paying any interest.

Tips

  1. Everyone needs a credit line early in life.
  2. Many will cosign for a child just to start credit early.
  3. Even a starter card with a low limit can build credit long-term.
  4. Pay on-time every time to avoid incurring interest payments.
