In this segment, you’ll learn to initiate a new meeting using Google Meet. Start by opening the Google Apps menu, which you can find by clicking the nine-dot symbol, located in the top right corner of your screen. This action reveals various Google app icons. Scroll down using the gray “scroll bar” until you locate the Google Meet icon, resembling a multicolor camera. The arrangement of apps might differ from the one shown in this tutorial. Upon finding the Google Meet icon, click on it, then select “New Meeting,” followed by “Start an instant meeting.” If prompted, allow Meet to access your camera and microphone. This step is crucial for ensuring your camera functions correctly, as you’ll see yourself in a rectangle on the screen. Next, a white pop-up will appear, offering options to invite others to the meeting. Remember, participants need a Google account to join. You can invite people by copying the meeting link and sharing it via email, Google Chat, or any other preferred method. For detailed instructions on copying and pasting links, refer to the lesson guide. Alternatively, click “Add others” and enter the email addresses of your invitees in the designated field. If you’re practicing and have no one to invite, simply use your own email address. As you type, the system may automatically suggest names of frequent contacts. Once you’ve added the recipients, click “Send email,” and they’ll receive an email with a link to join your meeting.

After sending out invitations, keep the meeting active as you’ll learn to manage meeting settings in the next video. It’s now your turn to put this into practice: Open Google Meet, click on “New Meeting,” and choose “Start an Instant Meeting.” Proceed to invite participants either by sending them the meeting link or by adding their email addresses directly in the meeting. After you’ve completed these steps, advance to the next video by clicking “Next.” This continuous hands-on approach is designed to enhance your understanding and ease of using Google Meet for various virtual interactions.
