If you don’t receive a response after sending your initial email to a reference, it’s important to remember that they may be occupied with other commitments, such as being busy, away from their computer, or out of town. If a week or two passes without a reply, it’s appropriate to send a courteous follow-up email to reiterate your request. In this extension, you’ll learn how to set a reminder for yourself using Google Calendar, which is a handy tool for managing your schedule and ensuring you don’t overlook important tasks. Setting a reminder helps you stay on top of critical activities, like following up with your reference.

To effectively set a reminder, begin by opening Google Calendar and proceed to create a new reminder. Assign a relevant title to this reminder and choose an appropriate date and time for it. Generally, a good timeframe for a follow-up email is one to two weeks after your initial message. You also have the option to make this reminder recur at a chosen interval, whether it be daily, weekly, monthly, or another preference. Once you’ve set your reminder, don’t forget to save it. If your plans change and you need to adjust the reminder, you can easily edit it to a different time or day. The updates will then be reflected in your calendar. Now it’s your turn to put this into practice: create a reminder in Google Calendar, give it a title, and select the date and time for when you should follow up.
