Having decided on the type of online business you want to pursue, the next crucial step is to come up with a suitable name for it. A memorable and distinctive name is key to making your business stand out and stay in the minds of potential customers when they shop online. Begin by opening the tab for your Google Slides presentation. Replace the existing placeholder text with the title of your presentation, and add your name as the subtitle. Create a new slide specifically for brainstorming potential business names. When generating names, consider various angles, such as the nature of your product or service, the materials or processes involved, or even naming it after yourself. Other creative options include using rhyme or selecting a name that starts with a specific letter. Aim to list as many names as possible, then narrow down your choices to a few favorites. Use the strikethrough formatting to cross out less preferred names while still keeping them visible for reference.

Once you have a shortlist of favorite names, it’s important to ensure they are unique and not already in use by other businesses. Open a new browser tab and use Google to search each of your name ideas. If you find existing businesses with the same or similar names, eliminate these options from your list. You can also check with the U.S. Patent Office or local trademarking authorities for further validation. To gather opinions on your shortlisted names, share your document with a class partner or seek feedback from friends or family. Ensure your sharing settings allow them to comment but not alter the text. After completing your research and considering the feedback, select your final business name. Add a new slide titled with your chosen business name and include a description of your business. Finally, choose a theme for your presentation. The right theme will provide a consistent aesthetic across your slides, effectively conveying the tone and personality of your business.
