Many Factors Impact Credit Scores

Reading

Every little thing can impact your credit score, from the number of credit cards you have, to the credit limit on your accounts, and even if people are looking up your credit score. As a rule of thumb, you want to keep at least a couple of forms of credit at all times to help pay off and provide a record of responsibility, starting as early as possible. Of these, you want the credit limit to be as high as possible, so avoid promotional cards with low credit limits even if they provide some cash back. Plus, many of these hold additional fees, so they’re generally not worthwhile. There is a very long list of things that impact credit, though, so be sure to look up additional information if you think something you do might impact your score.

Tips

  1. Many factors: credit card number, limits, looking up scores, etc.
  2. Keep a few concurrent credit accounts at one time.
  3. Pay off responsibly, and start early in your life.
  4. Avoid promotional cards with low limits, and avoid fees.
