In this lesson, you’ll learn how to prepare and send an email using Gmail, practicing by writing an invitation to a celebration. It’s perfectly fine if you don’t have an actual event to invite people to; you can either invent one or use the example provided in the video. Begin by clicking the “Compose an email” icon, which resembles a small pencil or plus sign. This action will open a new blank email on your screen. At the top, you’ll find the “To” field, where you input the email address of your recipient. For practice purposes, you’ll send this email to yourself. It’s important to remember that the email address must be exact for the email to reach the correct person. When addressing multiple people, separate each email address with a comma and a space. Following that, type in a subject line, which acts like the title of your email and should hint at its content.

After setting up your recipient and subject line, move to the larger, blank area of the email. This is where you will compose your message, writing two to three sentences to describe the what, when, and where of your celebration. Gmail conveniently saves every new email as a draft automatically. If you’re not ready to send it immediately, you can find it later under “Drafts” on the left side of your screen. This draft feature is helpful for taking your time with an email, allowing for thorough proofreading, or adding more details at a later time. Once your email is complete, click “Send,” and it will be delivered to the addresses you entered. To view your sent emails, simply click on “Sent” on the left side of the screen. Now, it’s your turn to put this into practice: Click the Compose email icon, enter your email address and a subject line, write your email, and then click “Send.” After completing these steps, click “Next” to proceed to the next video.
