Similar to knowing your audience, your content needs to deliver.  You’ll know pretty fast if people like what you’re doing or not, if you read comments and see the analytics! Good content is always a draw, but so is consistent content. You can betray what audience you already have by changing things up, so be careful whenever you introduce something new.

Change is still good, though, and making subtle changes in the direction your analytics suggests is a good strategy. Did people enjoy a song you wrote? Write more songs like that one. It’s quite common sense, but you’d be surprised just how many people will change their style without consulting their audience first. Even major brands have gone bankrupt over that!

It also goes beyond the type of content, but also the time it goes live. A study by Sprout Social found that the days and times you post influence who you reach, varying greatly by age and occupation, and so-on. This makes sense: not everyone is going to see your work at 2am, it’s a very select audience of insomniacs at that point! And time-zones play a role, too, as we go global— curious why half your audience speaks French? It might have to do with your work releasing early in the morning, right around rush-hour traffic when people are most likely looking at their phones.

There’s quite a bit more about the ideal posting times and why they work the way they do, but that’s reserved for another course.
